We are not a wood shop but we do cut dead tree carcass once in a while. Drilling 5/16" [8mm] bolt holes in 2 x 12 - 48 inch long. Being able to travel 60" x 30" has its benefits. I rarely use Albrecht chucks - reserved for light duty work like this.

Mauna Kea

Repost from Mike @ti2design . . 2013 machining at high altitude (14,000 feet or 4.3km) on Mauna Kea (Big Island). The University of Hawaii maintains this NASA owned infrared telescope at the summit. The project scope was to remove .250" off the bottom of the dome rail so it would seat properly on the wheels that rotated the dome while following the movements of the telescope. The dome measure 70' in diameter and the rail width was 2.625" of hardened steel. @pmthonolulu built a slick milling machine to mount on one of the support pylons and custom Raptor 3/6 endmills from @destinytool were used for material removal. Some say I get all the fun jobs . The white blobs on the rail is cutting paste... 200+ feet per pass. Took several days.

@plan_b_fabrications it is! Wheel adapter machine work delayed but finally getting done. We have multiple machines in the cut trying to make up time. 12" cushman 3 jaw chuck on maiden job.

It is a rare VTL style low profile backless chuck that came on Hartford 12" superspacers. 12" [30.4 cm] but uses 6" tongue and groove jaws. 4" through hole is awesome. It will join forces with the 6" Bison that has been in service for the last 6 or 7 years. Some stainless yacht rigging, polishing by @onestoptitanium . Another small drilling and milling job, stair tread clips again for @onestoptitanium . We finally finished the knockoffs, heard they were in the last car show.

Over in the laser booth, engraving some Zippo lighters for the crew. Index and ring fingers short since the guy apparently had a mishap that cut them short ... Crazy ball endmill machining of clearances on large 600 lb weldments. Over 50 feet of the 3/4 x 3/4 inch groove on these parts. Helps actuate the dredge's doors. More stainless stick welding. @oahumakerspace is right, kinda like riding a bike. Mean guard geese down the road at Bensen's old yard.
