A few weeks back I mentioned in a moment of excitement that I witnessed the best Northern Lights display of my life in Alaska..... well I’ve learned the hard way over the years not to claim things until the experience really sets in and you see the photographs. But I stand by this one, easily one of the greatest nights of my life. . On assignment with @sheldonchalet @greatlandadventures @prana
Using photography to support those in need is by far the greatest use of the medium. If you aren’t aware, Kauai is suffering catastrophic floods. Many homes lost with months of work to rebuild. I pulled together a print gallery on my website with my favorite Kauai images to support the relief efforts. 100% of proceeds will go to those affected for the next month. If you are interesting in supporting & purchasing a print you can visit my bio link or go here: www.chrisburkard.com/Shop/HAWAII/ . * also I am currently looking for suggestions on where to donate. Thanks for your help.
It was far from calm & windless. In fact every paddle stroke was 2x the work in conditions like these. Felt a bit like a fools errand trying to access the waterfall this late in the day. But the smile says it all, just simply getting in the water in Milford Sound was a success by our standard. Happiness doesn’t wait for perfect conditions so why should we? @snackfarmer
Never take for granted the value of a good memory. No matter who you are there will be times in your life that feel overwhelming, lonely, and at times dark, and the only thing you may have today to fall back on is the memory of a better time. Holding onto the subtle details can make it feel that much more real when you need it most. The smell of a fire, the sound of the ocean, or whatever it is that pulls you back into the experience. The greatest detriment to truly holding onto a good memory is probably the thing in your hand, the ‘ultimate distraction’ from what’s really happening around you. For me a good memory has been a lifesaver in more ways than I can express. Make sure to LIVE in those moments rather than simply just being a part of them.
Of all the creatures on our big blue planet the human is my favorite to examine.
