Great Western Woods Podcast

Inside the biomes, militant police are armed with stun guns and dispense justice with prejudice. Outside, things are little better. Militias roam the wilds, the leaders calling themselves “sheriff”, performing their duty in policing the settlements. Public hangings are not out of the ordinary and people live in fear of this sort of “justice”. There are courts, but only a few and people have to travel the perilous terrain to get to them. Once there, no one can guarantee a fair trial. Gangs of pirates raid settlements for resources, including girls and young women, who will be sold to other settlements as breeding stock. There’s little to no policing of these gangs. It’s dangerous out there. But with rife racism and brutal force inside the biomes, there is little temptation to take refuge inside. #writingpodcast

I hope you're all being good! Who keeps control in your world? Who keeps the peace? Perhaps there's a centralised police force, perhaps it's the job of the military. Maybe the citizens run a vigilante form of justice. Who sets the rules? Who decides on the punishments? Who carries them out? Remember to use the hashtag and you might find your post featured in our IG Story. #writingpodcast

Im not writing westerns but I learned a lot from studying this one. Like how a dead body is a promise to the reader and how a foul mouth can make for a strong character. Im inspired to write a new kind of story now- one that hits closer to home. Head Trip Link in Bio   #writingpodcast

Inside the biomes, children progress through a formal education. Gaining qualifications, and facing the threat of failure. Outside the biomes, education is a far more casual affair. There are village schools, but no requirement for children to attend. Many are home educated, while being apprenticed in their parents' trade. There's a lot of pressure for children to take over the family business, whether they want to or not. #writingpodcast
