Anthony Bourdain would have been 63 today. Anthony was one of the realest, smartest intellectuals I ever saw. He was one of those individuals who would wander outside after having some beers at the local one night and end up talking to complete strangers about anything there was to talk about. He was a natural in front of the TV cameras and he decided to keep his snarky honesty genuine on camera. He was one of the most real guys you'll ever see on television. When he died.... a part of me died but what hasn't died is my sense of wonderment and my curiosity to learn more about people, food, and culture. He made me less afraid and narrow minded about the world outside of the USA. His two shows felt like a journey with a personal friend. When I first saw "No Reservations" in 2006, it was the Sweden episode by the way, it opened my mind to the possibilities to what this world had to offer. The more I watched, the more happier I became. I was learning and wanting more from this man. A year after he passed, I still haven't had the heart to watch his shows again but in that time, I've traveled more. I flew for the first time in February and got to see the Pacific Ocean for the first time. The first time I stepped my bare feet into the ocean, I thought about him. I thought about him when I tried In and Out Burger for the first time.... I thought about him when my plane was flying over the Rocky Mountains and Utah. You see, a part of him lives on. Not in the physical sense, but in the moments we are amazed by the wonderment of the world around us. This is how I keep my memory of him alive, by traveling and staying hungry for more. Craving to be alive and learning about the world. He took a walk in this beautiful world and we walked right beside him. I intend to do just the same because that's what he wanted us to do. Take a walk outside in this beautiful world and feel the cold rain on your shoulders. See sights you've never seen before, taste food you've never tasted before, feel the ocean on your skin, hear people talk about their lives and their culture. Just live. Live. Live like you'll never see this world ever again. Happy birthday Tony. Thank you. 🍷🍽🌎
