For the entire month of May, spring was in full force; new life could be found EVERYWHERE! One of the things that was in abundance were ladybugs. It seemed as if EVERY SINGLE mustard plant had at least 1 ladybug on it! ⁣ ⁣ Ladybugs (like some other beetles) are fact pollinators, albeit more accidental ones: as they go from flower to flower looking for pollen & pesky bugs to eat, some pollen will stick to their shells & legs and transfer to other flowers. ⁣ ⁣ These beautiful bugs have voracious appetites, and the larvae even more so than the adults. One was recorded eating 75 Aphids a DAY! This amounts to about 5,000 Aphids over their lifetime! Counterintuitive as it seems, leaving Aphids, Scales, and other pests on plants as a food source will encourage ladybugs to stay, and eliminate the need for insecticides that WILL kill ladybugs, bees, and other beneficial bugs. ⁣ ⁣ Here's 2 great articles on ladybug facts & attracting them to your garden: https://ladybugplanet.com/surprising-facts-about-ladybugs/⁣ https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/beneficial/attract-ladybugs.htm⁣ ⁣ Hopefully you too will soon have a "loveliness" of ladybugs as garden residents!⁣ ⁣ Bee beautiful!⁣ Misty⁣ ⁣ Psalm 65 📷 Photo credit of larvae stages: Pixabay
